task was video-recorded for later coding. Before each copy period, children’s self-report of task-related
perfectionism (Copy CAPS) and anxiety levels (SUDS) were collected. Following each copy period, child
anxiety levels were again collected. Following completion, children and their parents were debriefed
and the experimental manipulation was revealed to the children.
Statistical analysis
Participants missing complete questionnaires were excluded from analyses, such that the most
complete dataset was analyzed. At the item level, small amounts of data were missing (0–1.0%), with
scale means substituted as appropriate. Because socioeconomic information was included as a covariate
in some analyses, the group mean value was substituted for missing data on this variable.
A series of 2 (Condition: high perfectionistic vs. non-perfectionistic parental rearing behaviors) 2
(Group: anxious vs. non-anxious children) 2 (Time: pre-parental rearing vs. post-parental rearing
manipulation) repeated measures analyses of variance (ANOVAs) controlling for socioeconomic status
were conducted, with the subsequent child self-report of task-related perfectionism (Dependent Variable
1), child task-related anxiety (Dependent Variable 2), children’s observed perfectionistic behaviors
during task (Dependent Variable 3), and children’s task accuracy (Dependent Variable 4) as
dependent variables. Any follow-up contrasts and comparisons were conducted using the Bonferroni
adjustment for the number of comparisons.
