A few days ago, officials prepared to declare new rules about cleanliness on the pathways to stop people in Bangkok from spitting on the ground, littering or leaving rubbish around. If anybody breaks these rules, they will be fined or sent to jail.
I actually agree with these rules, because when I walk on the footpath, I have to be careful to avoid dirt that shouldn’t be on the streets of a capital city like Bangkok. Bangkok is a destination for tourists from around the world, so it’s a good idea to have rules to keep the streets clean.

Thanks for your letter, Toffee. Sometimes in a sprawling, over-crowded city like Bangkok, it can be hard to keep the streets clean. It would certainly help if so many people didn't mindlessly drop their rubbish on the footpaths every day. If these new rules can be enforced, maybe walking the streets of Bangkok won't be such a harrowing experience! — Editor
