Nakhon Phanom: 420kg of ganja found
The navy's Mekong River operations unit late on Saturday night seized 420 kilograms of compressed dried marijuana - worth up to 12 million baht - which was left on the bank of the river in Muang district of Nakhon Phanom province.
Capt Surasak Suwankesa, commander of the unit, said the marijuana was found on the river bank near Ban Cha-ngom in tambon Dong Khwang. The drug was stuffed into 12 fish meal sacks with Vietnamese letters on them.
The drug was believed to have been smuggled across the river from Laos and left on the river bank to be picked up.
The price of dried marijuana along the border is about 5,000 baht per kilo, while it fetches 20,000 to 30,000 baht overseas, he said.
