The most common treatment for pernicious anemia is to replace the missing vitamin B12 in the body through vitamin B12 shots or pills. In these cases, the body will begin to regain strength over time as erythrocytes begin to reproduce in the correct manner. These shots or pills are given every day or week depending on the severity of the condition and the patients’ needs.
If the cause of pernicious anemia can be found, treatment for the cause is also possible. For example, if there is a problem in absorbing vitamin B12, medication may be given to improve the absorption.
