Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has issued an order under Section 44 of the interim charter suspending 45 senior officials, pending investigations into corruption allegations against them.
The order was published in the Royal Gazette on Friday.According to the order, government and local administrative officials are under investigation following graft allegations by the National Anti-Corruption Commission, the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission and the Office of the Auditor-General. Several ministry officials under suspension will be transferred to the permanent secretary's office at their respective ministries. Local administration organization (LAO) officials suspended will not receive salaries while the investigations proceed or until the Gen Prayut orders otherwise. Those suspended include 24 ministerial officials including Suwat Sithilor, permanent secretary for tourism and sports; Anuphap Kesornsuwan, director-general of the Department of Tourism; Pattana Chartkritboworn, director-general of the Department of Physical Education; Satit Rungkasiri, chief inspector-general of the Finance Ministry, Rakop Srisupa-at, inspector-generalof the Department of Provincial Administration; and Nopawat Singsakda, Udon Thani governor. One police officer, Pol Lt Gen Surapol Tuanthong, a police inspector-general and 20 LAO officials are also suspended.
