The Red Dragon Pirate Adventure Tour is the newest kid friendly, family fun attraction in South Texas. Set sail with Captain Silverbeard and the rest of the crew on your pirate adventure for an experience like no other. During your two hour boat adventure on the bay you will encounter and overcome many dangers along with being fully trained to be a pirate. The crew trains all the hooligans onboard how to fight with swords and pistols. (Water guns.) Upon reaching the destination on the treasure map there is a treasure hunt with gold doubloons!
The Red Dragon is 75’ in length and weighs 75 tons. She can seat 100 guests and sails three times a day out of Deep Sea Headquarters and Fin’s Icehouse and Grill next to the ferry landing. She has all of the latest electronics such as GPS, radar, etc., and is powered by two diesel engines.
Your adventure begins with the dockside show with a family friendly pirate theme variety act. Be sure to arrive early for the dockside show before the boat trip. The pirate show happens on the main deck and the guests become a part of the show. (We are all in the same boat!) There is a full bar in the galley at the back of the boat and an upper bow deck for adults only. Our upper deck above the galley offers a mezzanine of sorts for the pirate show below on the main deck. Captain Silverbeard is at the helm on the highest deck which is off limits to the public.
The Red Dragon’s first week has been a huge success! The crowds were having a blast! Everyone enjoyed the water gun fight, dancing, merriment and other shenanigans during the adventure. The comments were full of supurlives of praise.
The dolphins in the bay seem to be warming up to the Red Dragon. There were almost no dolphin sightings for the first five days. It is a new boat with new noises. The music and pirates on microphone are something they are not used to. Also the Red Dragon looks different than any boat they have ever seen. After three adventures a day for five days the dolphins seemed to realize that the pirates are not a threat as over 20 dolphins surrounded the boat and stayed stationary for a long time just looking at the pirates and guests getting excited from their presence. As soon as Captain Silverbeard noticed them he cut the throttle and stayed fairly stationary. The pirates changed the music from sea shanties to calm dolphin watching music. It was amazing to watch them studying the Red Dragon and passengers. They stayed for about 5 minutes just watching. Now they seem to enjoy the attention and are coming by for visits almost every trip. They seem to enjoy being adored with the oohs and aaaahs.
On the 7 pm cruise the Captain sails near the Lydia Ann lighthouse at sunset for an amazing evening and beautiful photo opportunity. The cruise provides a fun entertaining environment for adults along with activities and fun for kids. Adults aboard with no kids have as much fun as the kids. Fun is fun no matter your age.
Red Dragon sails at noon, 3 pm and 7 pm everyday. visit www.RedDragonPirateCruises.com for more information or to buy tickets online. You may also call 361-749-AHOY (2469) for reservations.
