Regenerated roots were thicker than seedling-derived roots used to initiate the original super root culture. After a period of adaptation, lasting for approximately eight weeks and characterized by slow growth, the newly established root cultures expressed all the super root qualities again, including prolific shoot regeneration upon transfer to light. This second pathway of plant regeneration, from isolated protoplasts to callus, roots, super root culture and somatic embryos, can produce virtually unlimited numbers of regenerated plants from protoplasts
