Whereas some have reported a statistical association between iron deficiency anemia and simple febrile seizures [40,41], other cross sectional studies have not found a significant association [42]. A study of febrile seizures in Indian children found lower zinc levels in patients with FS compared to age matched febrile children without seizures [43]. Other studies have proposed that there is a link between FS and a systemic respiratory alkalosis, irrespective of the severity of the underlying infection [44]. These associations require large population studies to determine if they can be predictive or if they can ultimately be factors associated with prevention.
