SWEETCORN
The vegetable we call sweetcorn is the seed head, or ear, of a type of maize, which is a grass now grown all over the world from the tropics to any northern region with a sufficient growing season. Other products from maize include cornflour, cornmeal and polenta, and popcorn. In the sweetcorn ear, the tender grains, or kernels, are set n rows along the central cob (“corn on the cob”); the ear I wrapped in long, silky threads inside a papery husk. Sweetcorn may be classified according to sugar levels: “supersweets” have four- to-ten times more sugar than “standard” or “normal Sugary”
