Dimensions of nursing practice
A. Health Promotion helps patient maintain or enhance their present levels of health. It motivates people to act positively to reach more stable levels of health.
B. Illness prevention – protects patients from actual or potential threats to health. It motivates people to avoid declines in health or functional levels.
C. Health restoration/rehabilitation – restores a person to the fullest physical, mental, social, vocational, and economic potential possible. Patients require rehabilitation after a physical or mental illness, injury, or chemical addiction
D. Palliative care – interventions for people who face chronic life-threatening illness or who are at the end of life; focuses on the prevention, relief, reduction, or soothing of symptoms of disease or disorders throughout the entire course of an illness, including care of the dying and bereavement follow-up for the family.
