Another consideration is whether a selection emphasis can really be made to work.Is it possible for the company to recruit top talent? Can really effective selection devices be developed and applied? In many instances, accomplishing these goals at reasonable cost is much easier for larger firms than for small ones.Larger companies are more likely to be widely known and thus have a recruiting edge based on goodwill. They are also more likely to be able to lustify the personnel research staff or the consulting expense needed to conduct fruitful validation studies. In small companies, such research is more difficult because of small numbers of employees in the various occupations and limited numbers of new hires. Also, the total number of employees and hires may not be sufficient to warrant the investment in research.
