Coating of SHP material over cotton fabrics
After drying the 2 cm 2 cm cotton fabric at room temperature,
it was cleaned once again by immersing in ethyl alcohol and
air dried. The cotton fabric was coated with different combinations
as stated below:
In a 100 ml beaker, 0.25 g of PVC (0.5 wt.%) was dissolved in
50 ml of THF. This solution was heated in a water bath until PVC
got dissolved. Further, a cotton piece was dipped into the
PVC solution for about 20 min, removed and dried in air.
In another beaker, 2% by weight of copper stearate (1 g) was
dissolved in 50 ml of THF, into which cleaned cotton fabric was
soaked for 20 min, removed and dried in air.
Later, 2% copper stearate solution in 50 ml THF was mixed with
0.25 g of PVC (0.5 wt.%). This mixture was then dissolved by
heating in a water bath. Cotton fabric was soaked in this solution,
removed and dried in air.
A suspension containing SHP additives was prepared by taking
50 ml THF solution containing 1 g copper stearate, 0.25 g PVC and
0.5 g (1 wt.%) iron oxide nano particles and sonicated thoroughly
for 10–15 min. Similarly, instead ofiron oxidenanoparticles, 1%by
weight of chromia nanoparticles (0.5 g) was added separately into
PVC–copper stearate solution in the same proportion prepared
earlier. After thorough sonication (10–15 min), the cotton fabrics
were then soaked for 20 min. The soaked fabrics were later
removed from the mixture and dried in air.
