The home improvement chain,
The Home Depot, does not collect used fluorescent lamps under the
SLO retail take-back program, but collects them under their own
program, which is allowed provided the lamps are collected and
managed in accordance with county ordinances and state laws.
Based on data provided by The Home Depot, their two stores
collected an estimated 7501 lamps (881 CFLs and 6620 linear tubes)
between June and December 2010. When extrapolated, this number
totals 46,076 lamps (5411 CFLs and 40,665 linear tubes) over the
43-month study period. The two retail collection programs (the
mandatory retail take-back program and The Home Depot)
together collected 164,921 lamps over the study period, which
equates to an estimated collection/recycling rate of 36.44%, which is
one of the highest collection/recycling rates for fluorescent lamps
in the US
