For Koreans, there is no Valentain day..
Feburuary 14th....
Most enlightened Koreans remember the day as the day of the great hero Ahn JungGuen of the colonial Korea of the japanese militarism refused to beg his life when the military Japanese court judged death sentence to him Feb. 14th, 1910, because he killed the Korean nation's enemy leader, the japanese doge of colonial Korea .
So, most enlightened Koreans remembet February 14th is Ahn JungGuen's day....
Valentain is never related to Korean history.
On that day Ahn JungGuen' mother receiving her son's death sentenced news, sent letter to her son Ahn JungGuen:
***following is the letter to Ahn JungGuen from his mother Joh Maria***(translated by Jinn Choi)
(My son) If you would think it will be
unfilial to die earlier than mother, you would make me be in the derision.
Your death will be not one your own but have the whole public indignations of all Korean people.
If you apeal to higher court, it means that you beg for your life from the imperial japan !
Do not think other thing and go to die !
It will may be the last letter to you from me.
Here I send a shroud that I made for you so, go to die with wearing it.
I did not expected that we can meet again in this world!
In the next life, come you to this world as a son of Father of Heaven !
( Feb.14, 1910, From mother )
*** Feburuary 14th, the day that the Korean hero was sentenced to death and after he refused to the right of appeal he died March 26th, 1910 on the scaffold at the young age of 31.
For Koreans, though it has 70th Aniversary of the Liberation of Korea, there have been still the joy of the restoration of independence and the pain of the dark age of japanese colony
in a part of Kotean history. And Koreans will never forget it.
Thank you....^^ from Jinn
