The processing of straw differs from that of wood in the
first part of the MDF process. The harvested and baled wheat straw is size-reduced (chopped), hammer-milled, screened,
and pre-wetted before defibration (the fibre-refining process).
The subsequent processing steps are similar to those in conventionalwood-
based systems and involve resination, drying,
mat-forming, pre-pressing and, finally, hot pressing.
