Clinical Presentation
The clinical signs of hypoglycemia are nonspecific (see Table 2) and mimic symptoms from a variety of conditions such as sepsis, hypocalcaemia and intracranial hemorrhage. Hypoglycemia may precede disturbances in the central nervous system, but there is a lack of evidence about what level of blood glucose is necessary for brain injury. If the neonate exhibits one or more signs in Table 2, hypoglycemia must be considered.
