Beneath P. Cineraria, pH of the soil was 8.0 as against 8.2 in the open.
Similarly, electrical conductivity under this tree was 0.01 m mhos/cm while
it was 0.22 under P.juliflora and 0.20 in the open. The reduced pH beneath'
this tree is believed to be due to the higher contents of organic matter and
soluble Ca and lower content of CaCO3. Similarly under this tree there
was considerable enhancement in the soil N-content, mainly due to higher
leaf litter accumulation [4]
