4. Preventive Maintenance (PM)
Preventive maintenance is designed to preserve and enhance equipment reliability. A correctly
integrated PM program will provide a significant increase in production capability throughout the
entire production system. The ideal PM program will prevent the failure of all equipment’s before it
occurs. With the use of integrated preventive maintenance (IPM) operators are required to become
more aware of the behavior of their equipment’s and their common problems. People believe that IPM
can save a loss in production time, reduction variation in the product quality. In addition, the IPM has a
number of long-term benefits as the followings;
•
Operators are more familiar with the equipment and know how to operate correctly when they
think that maintenance is the primary responsibility;
•
Processes are in better control through IPM’s machine and tool records, producing better
quality;
•
The Quality, the flexibility, the safety, the reliability, and production capability are improved;
•
Reliable equipment permits inventory reduction
