Our PCR typing scheme identified pCESC3 as a type 1 IncC plasmid as
it possesses orf1832 and does not have the i1 and i2 insertions. The T2
PCR, which detects the two forms of the rhs gene, did not produce an
amplicon (Table 3). The PCR across the backbone region interrupted
when ARI-B is present (RH1478/R3F) produced an amplicon of the expected
size, confirming that pCESC3 does not contain ARI-B (Table 4).
None of the PCRs A1–A3 (ARI-A) produced an amplicon.
