Smart glasses. The flagship device of this second generation is the controversial Google Glass, which complements its optical
head-mounted display with a standard smartphone’s sensory array (gyroscope, accelerometer, magnetometer (compass),
ambient light, and proximity) and offers both WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. Glass’ Italian prospective competitor,
GlassUp, presented by its creators as a ‘‘receive-only device’’, is designed to be a complement to the user’s smartphone.
It offers Bluetooth connectivity so users can receive information from their smartphone and comes with a similar set of
sensors as Glass (minus the gyroscope). GlassUp was demoed at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and its basic
version is slated to sell at a much lower price point compared to Glass’s $1500.
