This might seem excessive in terms of the amount of information required in
a simple instruction. However, it all depends on the context. If the person is
lacking in experience and is unfamiliar with the task, then the full instruction
with no short-cuts is preferable as this limits the scope for confusion and
misunderstandings. However, as the person gains experience and becomes
more familiar with the tasks, then you can start to use a form of verbal short-
hand where you can cut out some details as you and the other person both
know the standards required, etc. So in our ‘box moving’ example, a short-hand
version of the instruction might be:
