Conclusions
Comparison between the phenotypic and genotypic methods
highlights the importance of employing molecular methods
when typing streptococcal isolates. The phenotypic characterization
and tuf-based phylogenetic tree performed in this
study revealed that all isolates exhibited a high homogeneity
irrespective of their fish species as well as country of origin.
We showed that biased sinusoidal field gel electrophoresis
(BSFGE) with SmaI restriction enzyme is a valuable and effective
method used to genetically characterize a total of 20 S. dysgalactiae
isolates. The most interesting conclusion that appears
from this study is that S. dysgalactiae isolates from different
fish species collected from four different Asian countries are
localized geographically and differed on a multinational level.
