The vast majority of patents regarding high pressure extraction of natural products concerns the extraction of a specific compound from a specific substrate in a certain range of operating conditions. A very recent example of this kind is the US patent 20140343309A1 titled ‘Supercritical fluid extraction process of kenaf seeds’ published on 20/11/2014. The invertors’ claim read as ‘The present invention provides a SFE process for extracting oil of kenaf seed, wherein the SFE process utilizes a supercritical fluid and is conducted in a pressure ranging from 200 to 600 bar with temperature ranging from 40 to 80 °C’. This category of patents adds little to the state of the art of the technology and therefore will not be discussed further.
