Although the number of known archeoviruses is very
limited, the morphological diversity of DNA archeoviruses
is exceptional and includes unique morphotypes. Given this
diversity, they have been classified into 10 viral families,
although some still remain unclassified (Table 1). In this
review, we will present the characteristics of representatives
from all families of the archeoviruses and discuss results that
have a profound impact on our understanding of virus
diversity and evolution.
