This issue is very much studied in the present time.
Further there is another debate in this field and the question is whether iron deficiency anaemia in pregnancy should be treated with daily iron supplementation or once a week. There is growing evidence that one dose a week is likely to be as effective as a daily dosing with iron tablets. If this finding gets confirmation then it may also benefit pregnant women as side effects of iron use such as constipation, may be reduced. Further it will effects public health strategies to improve iron status during pregnancy.
