Specification of Signals to Clients: Vattenfall includes interface Logical Nodes (group I in IEC 61850-7-4) in the specification as a collector of input signals requested to be sent to local HMI and control center clients. In the pilot substation the remote signals were analyzed in detail and mapped to 36 different Logical Nodes defined in the second edition of IEC 61850-7-4. As the vendors IEDs in the pilot only supported the first edition of the standard seven Logical Nodes were not applicable. Only half of the remaining Logical Node classes could be mapped in the device meaning that generic I/O where extensively used, especially for alarm signals.
