East Japan Railway Company saw Tokyo Station and its surrounding areas as being one big city, and in 2006, with "Tokyo Station Becomes a City" as the concept, the station premises and areas around the Marunouchi, Yaesu, Nihonbashi exits, etc., were given the name "Tokyo Station City".
Furthermore, with the aim of maximizing the appeal of Tokyo Station City, and continually increasing the value of the area as a whole, the "Tokyo Station City Management Council" was established in June 2013, with the East Japan Railway Company and 24 JR East Group companies related to Tokyo Station City (including public interest corporations) as its members.
Tokyo Station City Management Council engages in activities such as disseminating information about Tokyo Station City, organizing events and environmental maintenance in the area.
