Purpose of the Study
This case study examines within three XYZ service restaurants from a followers
perspective whether followers’ preferences in a service environment are those predominantly

identified as accepted leadership characteristics. The study also, examines within the service
restaurant environment if there is a relationship between any of the five-followership types by
gender and preferences for gender – type leadership behavioral characteristics. Preferences may
vary across demographics. The research is designed to identify follower’s preferences for
leadership characteristics within service organization. In an attempt to identify followers’
preferences the study will test for the following research questions:
1. Within a service restaurant environment is there is a relationship between any of the
five-followership types by age?
2. Within a service, restaurant environment is the followership – leadership relationship
affected by age?
