1.2. Implications of the First Pilot Study for the
Proposed Project
The pilot study provided us with the opportunity to learn
from methodological difficulties [13]. Although the
transfer and pilot testing of the German PRO-Self

PCP was quite successful and the feasibility of research
and intervention procedures was established, a number of
aspects warrant critical consideration. A low response
rate indicates that the invitation to participate needs to be
more closely linked to clinical practice. A high attrition
rate (18% in six weeks; 35% in 22 weeks) may be in associated symptoms. Patients in the intervention group
will obtain new knowledge about their pain and will receive self-management support. As soon as the six-week
study period following discharge is over and the qualitative interviews have been completed, patients in the control group will also be offered the intervention
