Inevitably any mention of 'love' raises concerns about inappropriate shows of affection between children and practitioners. Of course children must be protected from harm, but by attempting to rule out the physical reassurance that many young children need - a cuddle or an opportunity to sit on a comfortable lap - we may be invoking a different kind of harm. He argues that a wish for increased control and risk-avoidance have together contributed to this disembodiment with 'the unfortunate, unintended side-effect of reducing physical movement and contact in early childhood educational setting' Tobin 2004
