6. The AHN is an expansion of the ‘Trans-Asian Highway’ network within ASEAN. To date, while there have been significant progress made by the ASEAN Member States in terms of increasing the length and upgrading the road quality of the highway, there are still missing links and below standard roads in some Member States. As far as the missing links of the AHN are
concerned, it is located mostly in Myanmar with total length of 227 kilometres. Whereas for the roads which are below Class III standards under the AHN, it stretches over 5,300 kilometres encompassing six Member States including Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines and Viet Nam.
