In addition to general beach-information signs, the use of
signage is also an important way of engaging with the public
when any beach maintenance works are undertaken, particularly
activities such as beach recycling or reprofiling which can
be both visually intrusive and restrictive to beach access. In
this regard, the use of warning signs and information boards at
the site, combined with public awareness campaigns prior to
works commencing, provides a means of educating beach users
about what is happening and why (Halcrow, 2001).
