The event and fault diagnosis subsystem analyzes
system measurements and estimated values to detect the
presence of a system disturbance such as over- or undercurrent,
overvoltage, or voltage dip. Data about the event
such as duration. spectrum, magnitudes, and frequency
occurrence are used to localize and classify the source of the
disturbance. For example, the levels of an overcurrent
event can be correlated with the distribution system map to
determine the distance of the equipment causing a
disturbance.
After the cause is determined, the maintenance system
assesses the source of the disturbance, determines the time
to failure, and recommends corrective action, if necessary.
