When a total of 49 sows were inseminated with frozen thawed
sperm diluted in the presence or absence of
caffeine, the pregnancy rate in sows inseminated with
sperm using caffeine-containing solution (16 of 23; 70%)
tended (P < 0.1) to exceed that without caffeine (12 of 26;
46%). With versus without caffeine, there were no significant
differences in farrowing rates (65% vs. 46%, respectively)
or litter sizes (7.1 1.0 vs. 8.4 0.7).
