In between dances Clare entertained him with stories about her London life. She told him she worked for a newspaper but didn't go into much detail. But she did tell him about some of the people she'd interviewed and about some of the funny things that had happened in the course of her job. Bruno seemed to like her stories and they spent a lot of the evening laughing. It was after two when they eventually left the club. It seemed natural for Bruno to put his arm round Clare as they strolled down the main street towards the Zermatterhof. They talked quietly all the way back. At the entrance to the hotel, they turned towards each other. Clare leaned forward and Bruno kissed her on both cheeks and then very lightly on the lips. Thanks for said Clare and Bruno at the same time. Thanks for a wonderful evening, laughed Clare. No, thank you, I haven't enjoyed myself so much for ages," replied Bruno. "We're OK for tomorrow afternoon's skiing you fixed it with the ski school, didn't you?' "Yes if I'm still standing after all this exercise, said Clare. "See you at the lift station at twelve then. Goodnight and thanks again. "You're more than welcome," said Clare to herself as she walked upstairs to her bedroom.
