II. THE MOOAR SYSTEM
A. The Rationale of implementing AR in location-based
adaptive mobile learning.
This paper represents the system design of the Multi-
Object Oriented Augmented Reality system, which is able to
eliminate the deviations and to increase the interactive
among learner, learning objects and learning contents in
order to enhance the performance in location-based adaptive
mobile learning environment.
In this research, there are two critical factors about
implementing Augmented Reality into the location-based
adaptive mobile learning. In the prior learning experiences,
no matter indoor classroom learning, e-learning, outdoor
mobile learning and u-learning, there could be deviations
between learners, learning objects, and learning contents. For
example, the Time deviation between the real landmark in
the Alberta Legislature Building and the picture on
guidebook that took at 10 years ago or the guidance
information drew on the standalone maps. Also the natural
factor such as light, shadow or different view point that make
vegetation looks different from the description of textbook.
The first reason of implementing Augmented Reality is that,
this research aims to decrease the deviations that mentioned
above, to see the learning contents related to specific
learning object that superimposed on learners’ mobile device.
And to instruct them with navigation information directly
display upon the real world instead of standalone physical or
digital maps.
Second, the MOOAR system aims to increase the
interactive between learners, learning objects and contents.
Augmented Reality allows information synchronized
displayed on learners’ mobile device with the real world
through the camera view, learners are able to learn with these
AR contents to complete activities and tasks among learning
objects. Furthermore, learner can make a screen shot
contained AR contents with real learning objects as their
notes or assignments for their courses. This paper expected
that to decrease the deviation and increase the interactive
among learners, learning objects and contents will
significantly enhance the learning performance.
