1 SCOPE
1.1 This purpose of this Standard is to establish a procedure and Form 20.09.01.00 to be used by Bayer personnel for the inspection of insulation installation for new construction and maintenance.
1.2 The extent to which the requirements of this standard shall be applied shall be as stated by the governing
specification and Bayer Regional Standards.
2 GENERAL
2.1 Insulation installation shall be inspected as necessary to assure that installation and materials are in conformance with Bayer Regional Standards, specifications, and manufacturer's written installation instructions.
2.2 Hold points for inspection shall be assigned in the job specification at the discretion of Bayer. Hold points
may include (but are not limited to):
• Material Storage - is dunnage and weather protection being used.
• Materials - are the correct approved materials being used per Bayer Regional Standards.
• Tracing - is tracing installed and heat transfer media in place (if required).
• Release - has the item to be insulated been tested (leak, pressure, etc.)
• Painting - has painting, if required, been completed.
• Safety - are workers wearing required and recommended protective equipment and working in accordance with plant safety policies.
• Securement and Fit-up - are the insulation materials tightly fitting and secured properly.
• Joint Sealing and Vapor Barrier Coating(s) (Cold Service) - are joints being sealed thoroughly and
vapor barrier coating installed in accordance with Bayer Standards.
• Jacket Fit-up - is metal fit-up close, tight, neat, and oriented to shed water.
• Metal Edges/Bands - are overlaps rotated properly, edges hemmed 1/2", and bands and tabs installed to prevent sharp edges.
• Caulking - has required caulking been installed in a neat workmanship manner.
• Accessory Materials - have pipe insulation shields been installed and banded in place.
• Clean-up - has daily and work completion clean-up been performed.
