2.6. Detection of yeasts and molds on cantaloupes
The same cantaloupes treated in Section 2.4 were used in this set of
experiments. After storage at ambient conditions for 5 days, the populations
of yeasts and molds on the surface of three cantaloupes with and
without coatings were determined for each treatment. Four circular
disks of cantaloupe rinds were cut with a sterile stainless steel cork
borer (area ~4.52 cm2) from different locations of one cantaloupe.
After removing the flesh, the four round disks were placed in sterile
blender bags and treated using the same procedures described in
Section 2.5. The populations of yeasts and molds were enumerated on
dichloran rose Bengal chloramphenicol agar (DRBC; Thermo Scientific
Remel) after incubation at 21 °C with 58–70% RH for 5 days. Foreach treatment, experiments were replicated 3 times from different
