Conclusions
Excessive water loss via the process of interception has been identified in the unmanaged pine plantation studied as a result of both a high tree density and the severity of the semiarid climate in the region.
In the global and regional scope of climate change predictions, these stands should be managed to reduce their density and to increase throughfall, thereby facilitating a balance between green and blue water. However, forest management should be conducted in consideration of other site limitations such as slope, soil type and extreme rain events.
