Half a century earlier, before the war occurred, the people of Pattani had lived peacefully and enjoyed a secured life. This sent of contentment has led them to take their independence for granted and indirectly slackened their concern on the nation’s security. And true enough when the war began, the Pattanis had already felt the signs of defeat. Thus, the will to resist and defend Pattani waned tremendously and defend became inevitable. Ibrahim Syukri described this defeat as the first in the history of the Pattani kingdom manifesting the loss of independence of the Malay kingdom of Pattani and abolition of the sovereignty of the Malay Raja which had stood still for hundreds of years. This defeat placed Pattani directly under the yoke of the Siam – Thai regime to this day. Another war boke out in 1789 when Tungku Lamidin who was appointed by Siam to be the Raja of Pattani later avenged the first defeat to free Pattani from the yoke of Siam.
