Hybrid maize performed better at farmers’ fields,
particularly during the rabi season as compared to
OPVs performance. From field survey, the production costs for maize varied from ` 9360/acre to ` 13180/acre (Table 5). Gross margins also varied from ` 1170/
acre to ` 10110 /acre, depending on the yield of the
crop (Figure 6). This huge variation indicates
inefficiencies in input-use besides adoption of different
types of seeds. Even though, production cost was higher
in the case of hybrids (` 13180/acre) than OPVs (`
9360/acre), it was compensated by the higher yield of
hybrids.
