The Step of the Airline Thai Pilot
A young Thai boy, who was dream to work in an Aviation career, is seated in the Captain’s seat and operates one of the commercial airlines jumbo jets, with more than 108 lives of passengers relaying on him and the other pilot to fly from point A to point B and landed safely. First officer Aumpol Kumvilai, who is now successfully operating one of the Boeing 767-300 ER as a position of Co-pilot for the Business Air in Thailand. To get up to this day he has been through many kind of his nightmares that he will never forget and all the achievements are what made him be who he is today. Mr Aumpol or Yass has very dark skin and a height of 185cm, every time when me and him had a conversation there are 2 main things that makes him who he is, which are a polo shirt with any kind of logo which has to refer to aviation label on, and a greeting like pilots use to communicate over on the radio.
Mr Yass was born into a middle class Muslim family and he is the oldest brother in the family. He has two younger brothers and a younger sister, his parent were divorced since he was 8 years old. His father is a tuk tuk driver and his mum owns a small drinking water company and also owns an apartment for rent. At the age of 14, he watched the film called" Air Force One" and there is one scene that changed Mr Yass’s mind to become a pilot. The Captain in the movie said "No matter what happen, we land this aircraft, is that understood?" This quote made him think that the Captain has the most responsibility and authority on the aircraft and that changed Mr Yass’s future plan, he has been collecting books, models or magazines and everything that are related to aviation, until the age of 17 when he find out that his body was dealing with Herniated. For 3 month, until the day of the surgery came. He asked the doctor that "can I still become pilot?" the doctor responded “I can't be so sure about that, but I will give you my word that I will do my best" at that moment all the hope from Mr.Yass was on the Doctor. A few weeks later after the surgery, his body is well fit and past the medical exam for pilot.
At age 20 he finally joined the Aviation school with BAC (Bangkok Aviation Center), he was very excited to get up close with the aircraft, he had been given the call sign known as "Sulatan" meaning the “The King of the Sky". Starting off from Aviation basic ground for 2 years, Private Pilot licence for another 6 month. So many times he tried to give up on it but he still can't because all the time he would think of his dad and his mum. At ages 21 he attended his first solo flight on his Private Pilot licence and managed to complete the course through his Commercial Pilot Licence, After the graduation with 205 flight hours on his log book and he been accepted in Phuket Air for job waiting list, but unlucky for him the airline went bankrupt after he got accepted in as a position of first officer. So he had to work with the scenic flight for a year, while he was doing that he also went searching for a job with the airline and tried to apply in for every airline in Thailand, but none responded back
During in February of 2013 he finally got in for Business Air, he passed all the exams that were required and now on the process of flight training for the Boeing 767 -300 as a position Co-pilot or First officer. Today he also had made a record of Aviation industry of Thailand for the youngest Muslim Thai pilot in the airline."To be who I am today, I went through many kind of difficult, but in the future I have a dream to become the best pilot to ensure that every flight is travel safely to the destination, which well be very difficult than it thinks, but that is the aim of every pilot who have step in aviation life".
