The subjects self-monitored radial or carotid pulse rate at various inter- vals throughout the session. Date, time, duration, exercise heart rate, and mode of training were recorded by the sub- ject at each exercise session and mailed weekly to the study investigator. Subjects in the control group were instructed to continue their normal routine and not participate in any for- mal exercise program for the duration of the 10-week por- tion of the study
