A forlorn koala has been drenched in floodwaters and perched itself on a fence post as severe storms batter the south-east of Australia.
The koala was soaked through as raging floods surrounded him on Wednesday afternoon in Stirling, south-west of Adelaide, a photograph by resident Russell Latter shows.
He wasn't the only one battered by the severe weather, as Melbourne and the rest of Victoria and South Australia was soaked.
Children and teachers had to be rescued from a primary school in Rapid Bay when it was cut off by floodwaters.
Police said everyone was accounted for when the school, south of Adelaide, was successfully evacuated.
Avoca River in Victoria's west reached major flood levels and is expected to keep rising as warnings remain in place.
The river reached five metres about 7pm on Wednesday and is expected to reach seven metres about midday on Thursday.
Heavy downpours have soaked Victoria since the weekend, seeing 12 local government areas flooded, 102 road closures and mudslides along the Great Ocean Road.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews told reporters on Wednesday emergency crews had performed 11 rescues, more than half from swift water, because people had entered floodwaters in vehicles or on foot.
