Because grain growth is exponentially
dependent on absolute temperature once the β transus is exceeded, the β
grain size of heavily stabilized β alloys with recrystallization temperatures around
800°C is much smaller than in fully lamellar structures of α+β alloys which are
recrystallized above 1000°C. For example, in the Beta 21S alloy grain sizes of 40-
50 μm are common (see Fig. 7.2a).
