District heating plays a fundamental role in Northern Europe (with heat market shares above 50%) as well as in various other countries, such as the Czech Republic and Slovakia [1]. Furthermore, this technology has experienced a great development in the last decades, and there are new improvements coming out every year. Specifically, all kinds of DH systems are being optimized, obtaining higher efficiencies that imply lower fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. In the same way, improvements are being made in other fields, which can have a strong effect on the development of DH systems. For instance, DH demand in Sweden is supposed to drop by up to 20% until 2025 [2], mainly due to the increase in energy efficiency in buildings.
