only this ligand was used in the following part. In the presence of NaHCO3 as the acceptor base moderate conversion was observed (Table 2, entry 1). Under the same conditions, using K2CO3 as base strongly inhibited the reaction (Table 2, entry 2). This may be due to the fact that the base led to fast catalyst decomposition. Interestingly, addition of two molar equivalents of water and the use of NaHCO3 as base gave complete conversion of 2 (Table 2, entry 3). It should be noted that water can react with carbon dioxide giving carbonic acid, but the later should activate hydrolysis of ethyl prenyl carbonate 2. Nevertheless, formation of prenol by hydrolysis of the ethyl prenyl carbonate 2 was not observed according to 1H NMR. It is likely that water mostly dissolves and homogenizes the solid base and makes it more accessible.
