The ways in which job analysis takes place vary among organizations and in the degree of refinement placed on this human resource process. In some cases, a staff member might be assigned the role of analyzing one or a family of jobs to determine their content and the relationships among them. Careful analysis is useful for developing job descriptions; it is also useful for a manager to understand the full range of activities being undertaken and the ways those activities might be rearranged for greater efficiency or effectiveness. Figure 6-6 shows some of the ways that managers can perform job analysis in their workplace.
