Visited Wat Pa Phukon yesterday, had a great trip via Ban Phue on mostly easy driving roads, it's a 125km trip from Udonthani itself up towards the Mekong river at Laos, takes about 2 hours to get there as the traffic is busy through the towns that you pass through.
Once you turn off towards the Wat the road becomes very steep, but it's worth the trip, there are 2 temples as such, the smaller one is atop around 300 steps but they are installing a moving ramp on rails to assist people with walking difficulties, wheelchairs etc, the second temple is the showpiece and has a reclining bhudda in the middle chamber, it's quite large, the temple itself was constructed from out of nowhere in the forest and is a striking icon in the midst of the jungle.
Well had a good trip and found it interesting, just thought I'd share.
