In the second root exudate experiment, the nematode penetration
rate in the mycorrhizal plants that had received mycorrhizal
root exudates (mycorrhizal plants/ex þAM) was significantly lower
(P 0.05) than in all the other treatments (Table 3). Based on the
two significant main effects for the two-way ANOVA of the total
nematode population, significantly less R. similis penetrated
mycorrhizal roots, or roots that had received mycorrhizal root
exudates (ex þAM) (P 0.05). In this experiment the majority of
the R. similis nematodes that penetrated the roots consisted of
